I have always been interested in understanding how early childhood intervention can help children's school performance at the later stage of their childhood. I want to inquire how children's bringing up affect their cognitive, emotional, social behavior. My daily interaction with my daughter has enriched my experience in understanding children's behavior. I am particularly interested in the research area of children who are at risk of developmental delays and children who are gifted.
I had a discussion
with Megan. We are both interested in
enriched learning for children at secondary level. Our topic is “Enriched Learning” and we will
focus our research on BC Mini School Program. During our initial research phase, we found that
the Mini Program in general is an accelerated educational program in which
students are expected to finish 4-year high school courses within 3 years. The recruitment process is very competitive
and extremely popular where only high-performance students in designated areas
will be considered. Different schools
offer different Mini Programs. For example, Lord Byng Secondary offers Byng
Arts Mini Program which attracts students who are passionate and dedicated to
Fine Arts, whereas John Oliver Digital Mini Program is designed for students
who are motivated to study in a technology enhanced leaning environment.
We as educators
realized that students’ academic and extra curriculum performances in this
program are much higher than students in the regular system. However, due to its competencies, very few
students are selected and have the opportunities to participate in these
programs. We were hoping through our
inquiry and research, we could find the reasons for students’ success in this
program (beyond individual capacity). We
then seek to construct an educational pedagogy which can be implemented in our
regular classroom teaching which benefits most of the students.
