 Exit Slip 1

It was fascinating to watch Frank McCourt's education experiences and philosophy today! As a child who grew up in poverty, he was able to rise up from extreme disadvantageous circumstances and finish his education to finally become a teacher. He is charming and approachable to me, and must have been to his students!

Reflecting on what he had done in his educational career, I think making good connections with students is the biggest take away today. Once a respectful and trustworthy relationship is established, both the teacher and the student will benefit from it: the teacher gains respect and confidence in his/her teaching and the student shows trust and is willing to work hard. I believe that it is me, as a teacher, who needs to initiate this healthy relationship and let it flourish later.
